Transforming mental healthcare
Dr. Nahreen Aref, AMFT
Sex & Relationship Therapist | Educator | Researcher
I’m Dr. Nahreen Aref, a sex and relationship therapist whose work lives at the intersection of intimacy, embodiment, and cultural healing. I guide individuals and couples through the tender terrain of sexuality, selfhood, and connection, helping them move from survival patterns into deeper aliveness. I specialize in supporting people navigating sexual shame, trauma, and relationship challenges, whether monogamous, poly, queer, or exploring new paradigms of connection. With advanced training in sex therapy, somatic depth psychotherapy, and Reiki, and shaped by years of belly dance as devotional embodiment, my approach extends beyond cognition. I weave together psychodynamic insight, nervous system awareness, and sensual attunement to help you access intuition, soften inherited narratives, and reclaim the wisdom of your body. Together, we can navigate intimacy, desire, and emotional safety with depth, humor, and care, so you can step into freer, more fulfilling relationships.
A modern approach
As an Afghan-American and daughter of refugees, I carry an intimate understanding of how war, displacement, and silence shape the body and its relationship to pleasure. After working in over fifteen refugee camps and researching the political dimensions of trauma and mental health, I felt called to bring this global lens into intimate spaces where desire, shame, love, and longing live.
Clients often tell me I help them feel safe enough to say the unsayable, and brave enough to do something different.
Our work together will be collaborative, creative, and radically compassionate. Whether you’re processing shame and trauma, navigating painful sex, exploring kink, seeking help with low desire, or trying to reignite intimacy with your partner, therapy can be a space where your truth and your pleasure belong.
